I am a daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother foremost in my life. I enjoy being with my family and friends and cherish our time together.  My personal life motto is “God, Family and Friends is what life is all about” and supporting families as a Childbirth or Postpartum Doula allows me be who I am to help others. I feel very blessed to serve families in such a special time in their lives, the preparation, labor process and care of their baby.  I get the chance to help women become mothers and men become fathers, and watch as together they become parents.

"Rhonda has always had a nurturing heart.  She often shared her desire to help young women who found themselves with unplanned pregnancies.  She wasn’t sure how to get started so she began volunteering her time at a group home for young women.  Rhonda had found her place! She could use her natural talents; patience, kindness, gentleness and most important unconditional love as a doula” - Friend & Client Leigh Ann Bailey

I became a Childbirth Doula after doing 2 years of volunteer work and began my Doula Service in 1999. I am a Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula through DONA International and have completed their Professional Labor and Postpartum Training.  I have completed the Professional Postpartum Training Course though CAPPA and am currently working on their certification as well.

I have continued my childbirth and postpartum training and education over the past years, receiving continuing education credits in childbirth preparation, labor massage and pressure points, breastfeeding support, infant development, postpartum care, and postpartum depression and feel very fortunate to have attended workshops with Penny Simkin, published author and doula trainer.   I have also attended conferences specifically addressing the postpartum period for mothers, families and babies.

As a Birth Doula, I have received training though Kaiser Hospital and Childbirth Assistant Associates in a volunteer program that focused on V-backs (vaginal birth after cesarean) and teen mothers, as well as my certification trainings. I worked at Waterbirth International and gained knowledge not only in all aspects of birth but especially in waterbirth.  In over 100 births, I have supported clients in natural, medicated, and cesarean births.  I have attended both home and hospital births, and provided doula support at the first water birth at Kaiser Permanente, Sunnyside Hospital.

Birth is such a natural and empowering experience and to help woman through there right of passage is a blessing in itself.  Every birth I attend is such a privilege and MIRACLE. Every labor is new and different; every birth is new and different.  I feel that every mother and father deserves to have the birth of their child that they desire.

My background as a Postpartum Doula includes my experience as the mother of two wonderful children who have given me two precious grandsons. I have received current training through my certification as well as my continuing education workshops. I am CPR and First Aid Certified through the American Red Cross.

I have been professionally involved in the birthing community since 1997 as a birth doula and added my postpartum work to complete my services in July 2005.  I have worked with singleton, twins, and families with siblings in helping them during the adjustment of being a new parent or big brother or sister.

For me, to be invited into your home to help care for you and your family is an honor.  I enjoy my time with my clients and cherish the special time with your baby.  To hold a newborn and nurture them is one of the best benefits to my job, but to watch a new mother and father with there newborn and see the joy this new life has brought to them and be a part of that is truly a blessing.
